More Corporate Finance Success
Our Corporate finance team has recently completed a complex corporate finance deal for our Filey based client Pinder Landscapes to fund the purchase and development of five housing plots in East Yorkshire, in a deal worth £200,000. This brings the total amount of corporate finance arranged for clients in the region over the past 12 months to over £1.6 million.
The plots, in Burton Fleming, were purchased from the administrators of a building company which had gone into liquidation, and involved us working closely with Pinder Landscapes to put together a competitive offer to the administrators to secure the purchase of the plots.
Through our membership of the ‘The Corporate Finance Network’ we contacted professional property lender Bridging Finance Ltd, based in Manchester. After intense negotiations with its’ Corporate Development Team, we secured an offer for the £70,000 loan needed to supplement Pinder Landscapes existing funds to complete the purchase and start the development project. Pinder Landscapes was then able to submit a firm offer to the Administrators before the deadline date and as funding could be proven, the offer was accepted.
Mark Grewer commented: “ For Pinder Landscapes, we knew that securing for a small business in today’s economic climate would be challenging, especially for a speculative housing development. Add into the mix complex legal and administrative issues, and it really presented quite a challenge. However, by using our expertise, our positive relationships with other professional services and our contacts through the Corporate Finance Network, we were able to provide an effective solution which is already having a positive impact on their business.”
Dave Pinder, managing director of Pinder Landscapes said: “I would like to thank Mark and the Corporate Finance team at Hunter Gee Holroyd for all their hard work and for helping me with the whole process from start to completion. Their membership of the Corporate Finance Network proved a real advantage and I am delighted that we have had a successful result. We are already building on the site and hope to have the first house ready for sale in January.”

Children in Need 2011
In order to show our support for Children in Need this year we decided to have a football themed day. All team members came to work in football strips and contributed a small fee. Those who did not turn up suitably dressed were fined accordingly.
A subbuteo penalty shoot out competition was held just to add entertainment to the day, some team members taking this more seriously than others. Each person had five shots and the one who scored the most progressed through to the next round.
Eventually we reached the final which was contested between Nigel Everard and Paul Dyson. After some highly skilled flicking of the ball Nigel emerged victorious and was crowned subbuteo champion.
Overall £440 was raised for Children in Need so well done to all concerned.
Teambuilding Event 2011
The 2011 team building event took place in June at the Carlton Outdoor Education Centre near Middlesbrough.
Upon arrival we were split into two teams, taken to a reservoir and challenged to build a raft from the materials provided. After much deliberation two rafts were created and six guinea pigs from each team bravely agreed take them across the water.
Much to our surprise both rafts successfully floated and none of the knots that had been tied came undone!
Once both rafts made it across the reservoir and back again, a challenge was then laid down to see which team could get the most people across on one raft. Both teams managed to get all willing team members on board, brave volunteers even stood up.
Inevitably as the rafts crossed in the middle a water fight commenced resulting in everyone being getting wet. However this was soon to be out done by Nigel Atkinson who failed miserably in his attempt to do a “King of the World pose” and ended up in the water. This was closely followed by Mark Grewer who was thrown in by his own team proving that team building really works.
A great morning was followed by a nice lunch, a well deserved drink (or two) and an extremely competitive team game of trivial pursuit ! Next year’s event is already in the planning following this year’s success.
The Inaugural Professionals Quiz
This year saw the launch of the Professionals Quiz as our new annual charity event. Twenty four teams, each consisting of four people, bravely took part in the inaugural quiz which was held at the Monk Bar Hotel in November 2010.
The quiz consisted of six question rounds, four breakout games, various table puzzles and a paper aeroplane competition. There was much trepidation on the part of the competitors especially with regard to the breakout games as these were solo events and everyone had to take part.
For one night only the Hunter Gee Holroyd employees were allowed to accept bribes in exchange for answers which were donated to the overall fund. This meant that more than £200 was added to the total highlighting the determination to win of all those taking part.
At the end of the quiz two teams were on equal points and a tie breaker question was required. The closest answer was provided by Burn and Company’s B Team who were crowned the winners.
By the end of a hilarious evening we had raised £2,150 for Martin House Children’s Hospice with people already looking forward to next year’s quiz. A good night was had by all.
Team Building
Friday 16th July saw the team partake in the annual teambuilding event, this year in sunny Filey. The day started with a closely contested treasure and scavenger hunt around the Filey seafront, the eventual winners being Nigel Atkinson's team.
After a delicious but bracing and slightly damp fish and chip lunch, it was time for the sand castle competition to begin. After a fiercely fought match, once again, Nigel Atkinson's team were victorious, with their stunning life-size replica of a speed boat!
With a belly full of fish and chips and lungs full of fresh sea air, it was then time for the pub.
A fantastic day was had by all, roll on 2011!
End of an Era
In October, after sixteen years of fierce competition, the last balls were bowled for the prestigious HGH Professionals Cup. Thirty two teams of local professionals competed this year for the chance to be crowned the champions who could never be beaten.
Appropriately the final event was won by one the Hunter Gee Holroyd teams and the trophy now sits with pride in our offices.
On the night £2,750 was raised for Martin House Children's Hospice. Over the entire sixteen years that the competition has been held an amazing £42,750 has been raised for local charities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who have supported us over the years enabling us to raise such a significant amount for charity.
Moving Forward
This November will see the launch of the Professionals Quiz – a quiz with a difference. We are hoping that it will be as successfully as the bowling event at raising money for local charities.
